    About This Thong

    Topman was the big mainstream high-street brand of my teens and twenties, so when I saw they briefly offered a thong through ASOS, nostalgia took over and I had to try it. I could only get a size Small, but at £20 for a 3-pack, it was worth testing out.

    First Impressions

    Out of the pack, the construction is fairly standard and traditional. It features a thick cotton front pouch and backstrap attached to an elastic waistband, very similar to the classic Calvin Klein thong.

    Comfort & Fit

    The Pouch

    My memory of Topman boxers was always fun designs paired with fairly flat, restrictive pouches—and their thong follows that exact pattern. While sizing down to a Small contributes slightly, the pouch pattern itself is definitely cut quite flat. It takes some initial positioning to get everything sitting right.

    The Backstrap

    The 3cm thick cotton backstrap is actually the best part of the design. It works really well, offering a sturdy, comfortable feel that doesn’t move or distract throughout the day. The smaller size doesn’t seem to effect the tension.

    The Waistband

    This is where sizing down generally has the biggest effect, and these fit notably tighter, but the elastic does a good job of adapting so it doesn’t cut in.

    Everyday Performance

    Once you get everything positioned initially, it holds everything tightly locked in place all day. I find they’re a great option for days with a lot of general movement, though the traditional thick cotton isn’t the best fabric choice for workouts or sweat-heavy activities.

    What I’d Change

    The front pouch needs a serious redesign with proper 3D contouring and volume. Creating more room up front would eliminate the need to fuss with positioning and make it far more comfortable out of the gate.

    Final Verdict

    I still like wearing these, especially for casual days when I want a solid, locked-in feel. However, I feel like until Topman updates their approach to the flat front pouch pattern, it remains a mid-tier option. I’m glad to own the pairs that I do, and would buy Topman thongs again if they ever came back, but that’s mainly to show theres product demand to the company

    About This Thong

    Doreanse have plenty of thongs on offer around this price-point, but this often just comes out as cheaper than the rest, making it a low-cost option to experiment with. Even though I’ve not had much luck with G-strings in the past, I thought I should see how this one held up.

    First Impressions

    When I first took them out of the packaging, there was very little to them. The 1cm g-string backstrap looked incredibly thin at first glance, but it is actually constructed from a few layers of the fabric, giving it some unexpected thickness and firm stretch. However, the pouch looked so small that I was genuinely worried I wouldn’t even be able to fit into it. The waistband is the exact same as their Aries thong, a branded elastic that isn’t super soft, but looks like it will stay in place.

    Comfort & Fit

    The Pouch

    Fortunately, the micromodal material has plenty of stretch, allowing the pouch to actually fit really well despite its tiny appearance. It provides a minimal level of support that is naturally confined by the pouch size, leaving things feeling loose and stretchy, but not overly so.

    The Back Strap

    The backstrap is noticeably shorter than the majority of thongs, ending right at the top-end of the butt crack rather than the area above it. Because the fabric is a bit grabby on the skin, I found the initial placement required some deliberate positioning to get the pouch where it needs to be.

    It is initially distracting because it holds the waistband lower than usual, but that feeling eventually fades. While the grabby material keeps it firmly in position without needing constant adjustments, it can feel distracting because it occasionally feels like it’s stuck to you.

    The Waistband

    Despite sitting in a much lower position than a standard thong due to the short strap, the waistband operates perfectly fine. It holds its ground and works really well.

    Everyday Performance

    These are perfectly fine when you are stationary, making them very well-suited to office work where you spend most of your time sitting down. However, they aren’t entirely seamless when transitioning to physical activity. Whenever you stand up and first start moving, it takes a few seconds for the sticky fabric to shift, find its position, and settle into place.

    Pros

    • Highly stretchy micromodal fabric allows the small pouch to fit well
    • Waistband works perfectly and stays secure despite the low-rise position
    • Multi-layered 1cm strap adds a bit of durability and thickness for a g-string
    • Stays firmly in place without needing ongoing adjustments once positioned

    Cons

    • Grabby material can create a distracting “stuck” sensation on the skin
    • Shorter backstrap demands very precise initial positioning
    • Requires a brief “settling period” to find its place every time you start moving

    What I would change?

    I would change the material to something smoother that can easily glide against the skin to eliminate that stuck feeling. I would also prefer a wider backstrap option, even though this specific design is relatively comfortable for a g-string.

    Final Verdict

    I probably would not recommend these, as there is simply too much thought that goes into getting them positioned right, and the grabby material could easily turn people away from the style. They are best suited for stationary settings like office work. While I still choose to wear them from time to time, I definitely would not buy another pair.

    If you were asked to list men’s underwear brands, Calvin Klein would probably at the top. They are the classic men’s underwear designers. So to see that they have a thong line, and that its not marketed as a novelty, is really great to see.

    Online, people seem to be split on liking this one or not, so I knew I would have to make up my own mind by testing them out.

    First Impressions

    When I first took them out of the packaging, they looked like fairly standard thongs—which is exactly what I want for daily wear. The material felt like a really good quality cotton, and the stitching all looked great.

    The waistband stood out as being very soft, exactly like the classic style I’ve come to expect from other Calvin Klein underwear.

    Nothing wildly stood out, but they looked completely normal and reliable, which is perfect for everyday use.

    Comfort & Fit

    The Pouch

    The pouch is honestly perfect. Calvin Klein did a really good job at designing it to give me great support without any discomfort, and it worked really well for my anatomy.

    The Back Strap

    The 3cm back strap is really well designed. It hits the perfect balance of tension to make me feel secure all day, while being subtle enough that I’m not constantly noticed or distracted by it.

    The Waistband

    The waistband is perfect. It is soft all the way around and didn’t dig into my sides at all, but still anchors the pouch and strap in place without riding up.

    Everyday Performance

    I found that these perform really well for all of my normal daily activities and tasks. I easily forgot I was wearing them most of the time.

    My only slight criticism is that the cotton material isn’t the best for moisture-wicking. If I’m active and start getting sweaty, they definitely hold on to that dampness.

    If they kept this exact same cut and tension but made them from a more technical fabric, they would be absolutely perfect for me.

    I would absolutely recommend these, as I think they make a wonderful beginner’s thong and are perfect for daily wear. Because they are such a great fit for a daily routine, I would definitely buy another pair.

    HOM has been making the Freddy string for decades, and has a huge fan-base of loyal wearers. This thong clearly works well for some men, so I wanted to see if it lived up to the hype for me.

    I have actually owned these previously in a medium and couldn’t get them to fit me right at all. After a bit of research and reading other reviews, I decided to try sizing up.

    First Impressions

    When I first took them out of the packaging, they looked surprisingly small, especially since they lack the traditional thick elastic waistband.

    The fabric itself felt like a soft cotton, and the construction quality immediately stood out. The stitching along the edges of the backstrap is incredibly precise. I also noticed how nicely the rear triangle tapers down into a very minimal 0.5cm cord strap.

    Comfort & Fit

    This is a style that requires some attention to wear; I can’t just pull them on like most of my other thongs.

    The Pouch

    It looks small and sits lower than most designs. However, once I have it properly placed, it fits everything well without any pinching or crushing.

    The connection point where the pouch meets the backstrap is incredibly fine, meaning it digs into the taint and is highly uncomfortable if it isn’t positioned right. I have to make sure the pouch is correctly placed before seating the rear strap.

    The Backstrap

    At just 0.5cm, it is instantly noticeable when I first put it on, though it surprisingly fades into the background quickly. That said, it doesn’t provide the same gentle tension and feedback I typically associate with thongs, and I honestly prefer a wider backstrap.

    The Waistband

    Very comfortable, thanks to the elastic being fully covered by the soft cotton material.

    Everyday Performance

    Once I have them properly adjusted, the standout feature of this thong is its incredible stability. They feel exceptionally stable throughout the day with absolutely no shifting or moving, all while keeping everything comfortable.

    I love the way the triangle at the top of the rear strap feels like it slots into place.

    For workouts, the cotton fabric holds its structural support well even when I get sweaty, but I do wish they were made from a more modern, moisture-wicking material for exercise.

    • Exceptionally stable; it feels like it completely locks into place once it’s on.
    • Covered waistband is highly comfortable.
    • Soft cotton fabric and precise, high-quality stitching

    Cons

    • I can’t just pull it on, I have to take the time to position it.
    • Very fine pouch-to-strap connection is highly uncomfortable if misaligned.
    • Cotton lacks moisture-wicking properties for high-activity days.
    • The 0.5cm chord strap lacks the comfortable feedback of a wider backstrap.

    What I would change

    I think the cut of the front is great, but it would be amazing to have these with a standard thong back, rather than the string. I’d also prefer the pouch and backstrap to join a little further back, so you don’t have to place it so precisely when putting them on.

    Final Verdict

    The HOM Freddy is a bit of a mixed bag for me, but its structural stability keeps it in my rotation. It isn’t a “pull up and go” pair, and getting the sizing right was a make-or-break experience. However, because it stays perfectly in place once it is on, it’s a reliable choice for everyday wear, and despite its downsides, I would probably buy another one.

    It’s brilliant to see more big names in the underwear world choosing to design men’s thongs. Kim Kardashian’s company SKIMS expanded to offer a line of men’s underwear, including a thong, and I can’t be more excited to see them being offered.

    First Impressions

    When I first took these out of the packaging, I noticed right away how incredible the material is. It is very soft and literally glides across the skin. The pouch and waistband feel substantial, and the stitching looks neat and consistent all around.

    Comfort & Fit

    The Pouch

    This fitted me really well. It has a nice amount of room without sacrificing support, so nothing felt squashed or loose.

    The Back Strap

    It’s very comfortable against my skin, but it feels a little too long. To make it feel secure, I end up pulling it higher than I’d usually wear a thong, but doing that means the pouch doesn’t sit right. If I let it sit in a normal position, the back strap shifts around a bit.

    The Waistband

    The elastic waistband is so soft. Honestly, the materials chosen throughout this garment are outstanding. It stays put where it should through the day.

    Adjustments

    Because of the back strap moving, I never really forgot they were there, but I also didn’t have to constantly adjust them.

    Everyday Performance

    I found that these work really well for driving or sitting for long periods. However, because of that slack at the back, they aren’t great for walking or moving around.

    • Strap Length: The back strap length just doesn’t work well with my body

    They are good, but I just wish the back strap was shorter. I would reduce its length by about 5cm to allow the stretch fabric to sit securely between the cheeks.

    Final Verdict

    I wouldn’t buy another pair of this specific design, but I would definitely buy different designs from SKIMS in the future. I want to support larger brands moving into men’s thong products.

    This is one of the thongs that show up all the time on sites like Temu and Aliexpress, with product photos showing the stretchy, breathable material and shaped pouch. They look like a potential option for a low profile thong, so I had to test one out myself

    First Impressions

    The “ice silk” material itself is definitely the best feature here. It is incredibly soft, lightweight, and has a ton of stretch. When I first put them on, they completely disappeared. In those first moments, it truly felt like I wasn’t wearing anything at all.

    Comfort & Fit

    The Pouch

    The pouch design is the main thing keeping this from being perfect. The volume is just too restrictive for me. Over the course of the day, that lack of room leads to some physical pinching. It didn’t cause me to sweat or chafe, but it did require a bit of physical adjustment and became a distraction.

    The Back Strap

    The elastic fabric is just too gentle. I rely on the feedback and gentle tension of a standard back strap to feel secure, and this pair didn’t give me that. When I was stationary, it went completely unnoticed, but when moving, the lack of elastic pressure meant it felt like it was shifting just enough to create a distracting “floating” feel.

    The Waistband

    The waistband actually sits completely flat and doesn’t shift, roll, or bunch up. However, like the rest of the piece, the fabric is just too gentle to provide a reassuring sense of security.

    Everyday Performance

    While sitting was fine and walking was okay, these just don’t work for me as daily wear. The thong would quickly fade into the background when I was stationary, but the moment I moved, that occasional floating feeling would snap my attention right back to it. The shifting meant that my manhood needed constant repositioning in the restrictive front.

    I thought about wearing them for exercise because they look completely seamless under running leggings, but the lack of tension would just distract me. I’d spend the whole workout doubting whether I was actually supported.

    Ultimately, I would not recommend these and would tell you to skip them if you want a distraction-free day. They are really only suited for someone needing a very niche, seamless look under tight leggings. Because of that lack of overall support and security, I definitely would not buy another pair.

    I remember the day I discovered Kiniki’s website. I was searching for thongs available in the UK and up came a company with plenty of options, all of which looked like everyday options. Their marketing images weren’t sexualised or targeting certain types of men, they were just simple product shots. I ordered a couple of designs.

    First Impressions

    When I first took them out of the packaging, the 4.5cm back strap looked quite wide, and I was genuinely concerned that it would be too wide to be comfortable. However, the material itself felt great—it had a really smooth feel to it and a very firm stretch.

    Comfort & Fit

    The Pouch

    The pouch is really well designed. It provides a very active and noticeable support during activity, yet it still manages to fade away into the background. There is a seam right under the pouch that I can sometimes notice, but it’s in a totally supportive way—it feels like it’s literally carrying you.

    The Back Strap

    I was really surprised at how well the wider 4.5cm thong worked. Despite my initial worries, it seemed to sit between my cheeks just as comfortably as a standard thong width. It didn’t feel like a mass of fabric bunched up there.

    The Waistband

    The waistband uses a fairly aggressive elastic. It does dig in throughout the day, but the trade-off is that it keeps everything held completely secure.

    Everyday Performance

    These work really well for everything, but I’ve found they especially excel during sports and activity. Thanks to that secure waistband and the excellent pouch support, they are perfect when you’re moving around, while still being comfortable enough for normal daily life. At £6, they offer very good value for money.

    What I Would change?

    I would improve the waistband to make it a bit more forgiving, and I would also love to see this exact same pouch design and smooth fabric but with a thinner back strap and flatter seams.

    Final Verdict

    I would certainly recommend these, as they are ideal for sports, workouts, and robust everyday wear. Because they perform so well, they’ve quickly become my favourite pair. I would absolutely buy another pair.

    Update

    I recently visited Kiniki’s online store again and found all of their thong offerings had gone. It turns out they have decided to move away from their underwear lines, focusing more on their tan-through swimwear. They do have a new bamboo underwear line launching summer 2027, which I’ve been told will include thongs and G-strings.

    If you get the chance to try out the Apollo thong, I’d recommend giving it a shot. And if you already own one, let me know how you find it.
